Sports & Recreation

For years I have participated in many sports and recreational activities. Some like Motorcyling, Windsurfing and downhill Skiing, were more adventurous in the past. But the following are lifetime pursuits which are fun when shared.

Racquets

Since the beginning of the booms in the early ‘70s, I have enjoyed continually playing Tennis with various friends, groups, and leagues (preferring singles, now doubles).  Over these decades I have also tried clubs and groups for Racquetball, Platform Tennis/Paddle, and now Pickleball.

I still love playing tennis with long term friends, groups and family when I can.  Hopefully, this posting will help me connect with new Pickle partners and groups.

GOLF

Sometimes golf is referred to as a “metaphor for life.”  And it has been a lifetime challenge and enthusiasm for me.  I have enjoyed golf leagues, golf trips, family vacation outings and group events with long term playing partners.

Yet it’s been the mental aspects of concentration and performance that have interested me most.  And this lifelong pursuit has now turned to favorite 9-hole and “executive” style courses - where I’m still trying to practice patience.

Triathalons

As a competitive HS swimmer, life-long 10K(now 5K) runner, and biking enthusiast, I've enjoyed local events which combine these activities with group camaraderie. I had participated in the local Glenview “Sprint” triathlon for 10 continuous years -with occasional recognition as shown here.

I still enjoy running, swimming, and biking, and continue to train for annually as an exercise incentive. I hope to add more local examples here.

YOGA

What fascinates me most about sports is the mental and psychological aspects of sustained attention and competition.  I’ve read a lot about these aspects; but for decades -since Running” training programs - I’ve found that Yoga (and martial arts) is the best  training and conditioning for all other sports.

I’ve been fortunate to have many excellent teachers and classes for various types of yoga.  These range from intense “flow” to “yin” stretching; and classes are always changing.  I hope to add further info and updates here for others who are interested.
