In Glenview, IL, these debates are no longer theoretical. Specific project proposals are now pending!

For the redevelopment of a former Hardware store site (as new mixed use residential and retail) the plans includes a mural space on the prominent wall along the gateway to Downtown.

Currently there is also a civic proposal for a historical mural - on a large Public Works facility - to celebrate the Village Centennial.   This would be visibly located on busy Lake Avenue.

Striking the Right Balance

As we consider the role of murals in urban design, we must find ways to balance these challenges with the opportunities they present. Thoughtfully revised regulations and processes for civic group collaboration should be the starting point - assuring that our streets tell stories that resonate for everyone.
