Design Guidelines

To improve community appearance, I have worked extensively with towns and citizen groups to develop effective sign ordinances and design guidelines.  My approach is to work together with interested citizens, business owners, and community groups to revitalize local business districts.

Many design issues which arise with downtown revitalization, in-fill projects, and new greening initiatives can be resolved cost-effectively by using local illustrative examples.  In many instances, supplemental guidelines can quickly address new trends and reduce delays.

I have drafted and reviewed all types of Design Guidelines and Appearance Code updates (including Form Based/Hybrid Code & Design Standards) with the Village of Glenview and the Municipal Design Review Network.  My broad experience enables me to support all aspects of the process: research, document preparation, negotiation, review, presentation and publication.

Over twenty five years of legal writing experience has provided me with a broad background skills for both business and land use planning.  My corporate law experience with Fortune 100 corporations focused on advertising and all forms of technical communications, including working with state and local regulations.
