The traditional methods of shaping support for civic projects are continually changing. Now Community Engagement can involve sub-areas or neighborhoods through interactive and constructive processes. I can help you support these smaller districts or neighborhood design needs.
Many communities already have broad Comprehensive Plans or established historic districts. More have neighborhoods which require additional attention to accommodate the specific needs, e.g. teardown concerns or commercial revitalization. I work at the neighborhood level, using social-networking technology and the latest digital publishing methods to conserve and promote neighborhoods and their property values, e.g. local heritage publications.
I have been involved on all sides of the issues to balance public and business interests. For municipalities, I chaired local facade improvement, downtown business committees and the Glenview Appearance Commission for many years. I have also represented citizen interest in public participation through Scenic America and the Scenic Illinois non-profit organization.
My group facilitation skills were developed through business team leadership and corporate management experience — focusing on participative approaches and process improvement. I have managed and facilitated company and community working groups from the employee/citizen to the board of directors/commission levels. I also received a Certificate from the Harvard School of Design for Charette Planning.
