Season’s Best Shows

“Show Of Wonders” - Chicago Botanic Garden

This time of year my attention turns to “showtime,” from Oscar movies to the annual indoor show at the Chicago Botanic Garden. There's something about this transitional season to share entertainment interests - and even my personal foray into local TV.

Chicago Botanic Garden Surprise

This year the Botanic Garden presented an aptly named “Orchid Show of Wonders.” The carnival and circus theme was fascinating for all ages - from musical instruments to funhouse mirrors! Set in the Garden’s comfortable conservatory greenhouse, it's a great event enjoyable for all ages in the changing seasons. But hurry - this year’s closing soon ;( Botanic Garden

Movie Watch-lists

I usually try to see all the Best Pictures before the Academy Awards. This year, though, I wasn't as excited overall, but I really did enjoy "Oppenheimer" and “Holdovers” this year. Did you?

This prompted me to renew my compilation of “Top 40" favorite movies. And I’m looking forward to YOUR nominees for that list! (spoiler alert: mixed emotions that most were years past;))

Behind the Scenes on Cable TV

Despite my enthusiasm, seems there’s never enough time for all the network cable specials and web TV/YouTube offerings. But recently, I was engaged directly with GVTV's “Off The Shelf” program. The versatile host, Yvonne Wolf, shares many of my interests - and directs a show which highlights local authors. So I was honored to be invited to talk bout my earlier book, "The Circles: An Architectural Heritage." JRH-Architecture

Architecture Books

The book review was timely - with this year marking a Centennial of local history. It was an interesting discussion; and I’m now planning to update the Book with an expanded version for the related 100 year celebration of The Circles neighborhood this summer.

Yet the experience of a longer TV taping session was more challenging than I anticipated! But I do hope the final cut may serve for further sharing my architectural interests. So stay tuned for broadcast news (and maybe a March-NCAA tourney review).
